July 15 Meeting - Defend your Data! Know the Rules: Compliance, Laws & Regulations with Joan Bradford-Pope

Tuesday, July 14, 2015 10:23:00 AM Categories: Meeting

Ok all you data defenders, ignorance of the law is no defense.  If someone is asking you to do something with the data that could get you and your company in trouble you need to know. Many companies do not invest in this kind of training for IT, but we have in our midst a globe-trotting rock star of an auditor that is taking the time to share her experience with us.

She will cover, from the perspective of the DBA, the highlights of Sarbanes-Oxley; Graham, Leach, Bliley;  HIPPA, PCI, and state privacy laws (Texas).  You will be able to better understand the practical solutions you can take to enhance compliance with these laws, regulations, and rules.  We will go to the code and regs and some guidebooks that the regulators use to see how your processes align with requirements.

Joan has been a business consultant, controller and managed the internal audit function of both a financial services company and a global manufacturer. Her interest in compliance began in graduate school when where she pursued a master’s degree in taxation (Title 26 USC).
